Asthma Inhalers and Spacers

All children, regardless of age, should use a spacer with their asthma inhalers. As you can see in the picture below, the use of a spacer ensures that more medicine reaches the lungs (instead of sitting in the mouth).  Asthma medication with a spacer works much better. Our office is stocked with spacers (which we will bill to your insurance), ask your pediatrician for one when you are here.

This video demonstrates how to use a SPACER WITH A MASK(This is for young children who are less than 8 years old).

This shorter cartoon may help children understand how to use a spacer.

This video demonstrates how to use a SPACER WITHOUT A MASK (For older children who are able to hold their breath for at least 10 seconds).

It's important to know the names and doses of your asthma medications. Which inhaler do you have?
